CPR & ECC

Did you know? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.  One-third of all deaths is from heart disease or stroke.  That is over 2 million heart attacks and strokes and over 8 hundred thousand deaths (almost 2,200 per day)!

Practical Training Solutions instructors are certified through The American Heart Association (AHA) to teach the Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Programs.  The AHA “delivers a dynamic message of hope — the hope of saving lives” (AHA 2012). Saving lives can be done by increasing public awareness of the importance of early recognition of life threatening events and rapid intervention. According to the American Heart Association the CPR/ ECC programs train more than 12 million people every year by educating healthcare providers, caregivers, and the general public on how to effectively respond to heart and stroke related emergencies.

Firearms Training

Did you know?  85% of gun owners in America have had NO formal instruction.

Our goal is to change that, and make it the best instruction possible – instruction that trains, teaches, and educates.

Training gives tools and instills habits.  Training programs responses.  The first time a new driver brakes, the braking is too light or too hard; until the driver is trained how to brake.  Then, a trained driver’s foot becomes trained to move to the brake and apply the right pressure automatically; without her thinking about it.  Training is the basis of instruction, but it is not teaching, and is not enough for complete instruction.

Teaching makes training relevant.  Teaching applies training to relevant situations.  A well-taught driver sees a dog run out into the road in front of her, and her foot hits the brake in response to that, and the braking is appropriate because of her training.

Educating is the highest level of instruction.  Educating gives the learner the perspective and wisdom to confidently put what was trained and taught into use, appropriately.  Educating goes beyond the tools and application and adds higher-level thinking.  When an educated driver goes down the road, she anticipates and more quickly recognizes the dog running out in front of her, and uses judgment about braking as well as other resolutions such as turning the steering wheel, so that her braking is not as severe, and perhaps not even needed.
